Sugar and Your Skin
August 14, 2009 by Jo
Some researchers consider sugar to be linked to the aging process and to be a cause of premature aging of the skin.
When we eat sugar, it travels into the bloodstream and over time can result in a process called glycation.
Glycation is when a glucose(sugar) molecule sticks to a protein molecule and in turn causes damage to the molecule. The new molecules that are formed called advanced glycation end products or AGE’s. AGE’s can then cause damage to the collagen in the skin and promote a loss of elasticity.
Sagging skin and wrinkles formation can result in visible premature aging.
Gradually reducing the sugar intake in your diet could result in a long term gain of healthier, younger looking skin.
