What’s the difference between sunblock and sunscreen?
December 1, 2009 by Jo · Leave a Comment
Sunblocks and sunscreens both give protection from the sun, but work in different ways.
Sunblock provides an actual physical block to the sun’s rays and usually contain titanium or zinc.
Sunscreens contain chemical ingredients that are powerful absorbers of ultra violet (UV) radiation.
They need to be applied more frequently than sunblocks do.
Most people have good tolerance to sunblocks as they have larger size particles and are not readily absorbed into the skin. They last for longer than a sunscreen and are better for swimming and playing sport.

Your sunscreen has a Use By Date!
November 29, 2009 by Jo · Leave a Comment
Sunscreen and sun block can lose their effectiveness if they are used after their use by date.
Many people don’t bother with wearing sun block until summer arrives again and the sun protection they reach for that they used last summer may be out of date and ineffective. Check yours to make sure you prevent skin damage.
Remember too, that the SPF numbers refer to the product’s ability to block or screen out UVB radiation from the sun. The higher the SPF – the greater the level of protection.
A broad spectrum sunscreen will give you protection from both the skin burning UVB radiation and also UVA. Both types of radiation can cause skin damage and heighten the risk of skin cancer.

What do you need in Skin Care?
November 27, 2009 by Jo · Leave a Comment
The three key ingredients needed in a moisturiser in order for it to be highly effective are:
- Antioxidants
- Skin identical ingredients
- Cell Communicating ingredients
Cosmetic companies that have a secret or star ingredient may not produce the most effective
skin moisturiser if these three key ingredients are not included in their products.
To find a skin care product that does have these three key ingredients and more – visit www.skinsaviour.com.au

What is Acne?
November 13, 2009 by Jo · Leave a Comment
Acne is a common skin problem that starts when dead skin cells and excess oil clogs up the pores in your skin.
Acne can be a few annoying pimples or can be severe and cause swelling, redness and painful acne cysts.
If you have acne, how you feel about it may not be related to how bad it is. Some people obsess over a few pimples and others are not much bothered by quite severe acne.
Acne can run in families and if your parents suffered from it, you may also.
To help control acne, keep your skin clean but wash gently with lukewarm water that doesn’t strip away the skin’s natural oils and cause more oil to be produced such as Skinsaviour Cleanser.
Use a non oily moisturiser that is non comodegenic and doesn’t block the pores,

Natural Face Masks – Avacado
November 11, 2009 by Jo · Leave a Comment
Avocados are full of essential fatty acids and the good mono unsaturated fats they contain are a great food for healthy skin and hair.
Avocados also contain the ‘good fats’ that help the body absorb fat soluble vitamins such as Vitamin A and Vitamin E.
As well, Avocados make a great face mask. Simply mash one avocado and apply to the face as a mask and leave for 15 -20 minutes. Cleanse with lukewarm water and moisturise.
Avocado masks can also be used on the hair to keep it shining and healthy.

Cumulative Exposure to Chemicals
November 8, 2009 by Jo · Leave a Comment
Sweden’s Environmental Authority is investigating the cumulative effect of suspected endocrine disruptors, in particular parabens and phthlates.
Daily use of cosmetics and sunscreens that often contain these can add to the load of chemicals absorbed by the body.
Most chemical testing in the past has only studied single high dose exposure and not the cumulative toxic build up effect.
A workshop was held on endocrine disruptors in Denmark, 2009 and their report states:
“Their main conclusion is that the current concept for risk assessment of chemicals is insufficient to test against the possibility of combination effects..”
Skinsaviour products available at www.skinsaviour.com.au have none of these suspected ingredients in their formulas.

Green Tea and Anti-Aging
November 5, 2009 by Jo · Leave a Comment
Researchers have found green tea polyphenols also absorb both UVA and UVB rays and increase fibroblast cell proliferation. Fibroblasts in our skin decline in numbers with age and with exposure to UV radiation.
A study performed by the Shangai Normal University concluded – “This indicated that a combination of TPS (green tea polysacchrides) and TFP ( green tea polyphenols) would be a favourable possibility for protecting skin ansd especially good for good moisture retention ability and fibroblast proliferation with strong UV absorbance of TFP.”
Skinsaviour moisturisers for men and women include green tea – additional sun screen must also be worn.

Cosmetic Products with SPF
November 2, 2009 by Jo · Leave a Comment
A recent report has concluded that daily cosmetic products with UV filters may not be effective as they do not contain adequate skin care protection from the sun.
Researchers tested 35 cosmetic products and found 7 did not contain sufficient UVA protection and therfore comply with current regulations – less than half had sufficient protection without needing to be reapplied.
Daily cosmetic products such as foundations, powder, primers are often either not containing the SPF they state or fail to give the instructions that it is need to be reapplied.
The most important conclusion from the report is that the majority of products do not reach the current standards in terms of UVA protection and photostability and consumers should be aware of this.
